What is BS EN 12569 about?

BS EN 12569 is a document on industrial valves. BS EN 12569 applies to valves of DN 15 and larger, made of metallic materials for chemical and petrochemical plants.

BS EN 12569 is based on the experience of the chemical and petrochemical industry and provides additional requirements for valve product standards.

Who is BS EN 12569 for?

BS EN 12569 on industrial valves is useful for:

  • Chemical industry
  • Petrochemical industry
  • Design engineers
  • Research and development teams
  • Food processing industries
  • Industries with gas storage tanks

Why should you use BS EN 12569

Industrial valves are devices that are used to regulate liquids, gases, and slurries. Valves for the chemical and petrochemical process are highly beneficial for chemical industries as these valves control gases, liquids, steam or chemical compounds by maintaining pressure, flow levels or disseminating the energy of pressure differentials to ensure the integrity of the process.

BS EN 12569 on industrial valves provides detailed information on valves for the chemical and petrochemical process industry which are made of metallic materials and extensively used in chemical and petrochemical plants.

Following BS EN 12569 guidelines ensures that, when the valve is under pressure, the shaft or stem cannot be fully blown out of the shell by disassembly of any external part or by the failure of the connection between obturator and shaft or stem even when external parts are removed.

Following BS EN 12569 guidelines ensures that the valves are safe when used in an industrial setting.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 12569:2020 supersedes BS EN 12569:1999. BS EN 12569:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 12569:1999. These include:

  • Clause 2 on normative references has been updated
  • Clause 3 for terms, definitions and symbols has been added
  • Clause 5 on the applicable requirements has been completely re-written
  • Normative Annex A on supplementary possible steel grades for fasteners and normative Annex B for threaded holes for pneumatic connections have been added
  • Informative Annex C giving basic configuration of the valve interface from the actuator to the valve with a bracket has been adde
