What is ISO 3739‑2 about?
This international standard aims to help its user identify tyres loading capacity and determine its load rating based on its application to increase tyres’ longevity. ISO 3739‑2 discusses the load ratings of the metric series of pneumatic tyres which are intended for industrial vehicles for use on prepared surfaces.
ISO 3739‑2 gives permissible loads for industrial tyres based on their application to vehicle type and speed capability for tyres up to 20 rim diameter and tyres from 24 rim diameter code up to 33 rim diameter code.
Who is ISO 3739‑2 for?
ISO 3739‑2 on load ratings for pneumatic tyres is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of tyres
- Automobile manufacturers
- Suppliers and dealers of tyres
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 3739‑2?
The load rating is the maximum weight that each tyre of a vehicle can carry at the maximum speed given by the manufacturer. The higher the load rating, the more load it can handle safely.
ISO 3739‑2 gives you practice guidance on load rating that includes reference load, calculated load, dual tyre load and inflation pressures which allows you to determine the maximum load capacity of tires.
These recommendations can help you to specify load ratings for pneumatic tyres that will educate the end-user better about the tyre’s capacity, thereby increasing their longevity.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 3739‑2:2021 supersedes ISO 3739‑2:1992, which is now withdrawn.
Change in BS ISO 3739‑2:2021 includes - added rim diameter codes larger than 15.
