What is BS EN 746-3 - Industrial thermo-processing equipment about?
BS EN 746-3 specifies safety requirements for generation and use of protective and reactive atmosphere gases that are part of industrial thermo-processing equipment (TPE).
BS EN 743-3 applies to supply of atmosphere gas, source gas, inert gas, and process liquids to TPE and their removal from TPE, confined to equipment integrated in the TPE.
BS EN 743-3 covers pipework downstream of and including the manual isolating valve, equipment for the generation of atmosphere gases, additional equipment for the use of atmosphere gases in TPE, safety devices and functional requirements for safety-related control system.
NOTE- BS EN 746-3 does not apply to –
- Utility supply upstream of the TPE main disconnects
- TPE for semi-conductor devices
- Decommissioning of the TPE
- Vacuum furnaces, blast furnaces, converters etc.
- The relevant risks involved in the Flue gases ducting system which isn’t considered a part of TPE
- TPE with atmosphere such as air and flue gas from an over stoichiometric combustion
- It does not deal with the hazard of noise
Who is BS EN 746-3 - Industrial thermo-processing equipment for?
BS EN 746-3 on thermo-processing equipment is applicable to:
- Health and safety bodies (regulators, accident prevention organizations etc.)
- Maintenance service providers
- Heavy machinery manufacturers
- Heavy manufacturing industries
- Industries manufacturing thermo-processing equipment
Why should you use BS EN 746-3 - Industrial thermo-processing equipment?
Thermo processing equipment are widely applicable in industries involved in heavy machinery and dealing with by-products like dangerous gases and liquids.
BS EN 743-3 specifies the anticipated significant hazards associated with atmosphere gas systems and their use in TPE. It also includes the appropriate preventative measures for the reduction or elimination of hazards.
BS EN 746-3 gives you guidance on significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the generation and use of protective and reactive atmosphere gases created by thermochemical reaction. This enables you to develop strategies to keep the systems, machinery and personnel safe.
BS EN 746-3 approved TPE designs do not create any potentially explosive atmosphere in the area around the TPE which increases the safety and energy efficiency of your systems, machinery and processes.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 746-3:2021 supersedes BS EN 746-3:1997+A1:2009, which is now withdrawn.
