What is BS EN 61069-3 - System functionality assessment about?

System assessment is the judgement, based on evidence, of the suitability of the system for a specific mission or class of missions. To obtain total evidence would require complete evaluation (for example under all influencing factors) of all system properties relevant to the specific mission or class of missions. IEC 61069 series is used as a guide for planning an evaluation and it provides methods for performing evaluations since evaluations are an integral part of the assessment. IEC 61069 deals with the method which should be used to assess the system properties of a basic control system.

BS EN 61069-3 specifies the detailed method of the assessment of the functionality of a basic control system based on the basic concepts of IEC 61069-1 and the methodology of IEC 61069-2.

BS EN 61069-3 defines the basic categorization of functional properties. BS EN 61069-3 describes the factors that influence functionality, and which need to be taken into account when evaluating functionality.

Who is BS EN 61069-3 - System functionality assessment for?

BS EN 61069-3 on system functionality assessment is useful for:

  • Software companies/engineers
  • The IT industry
  • Organizations dealing with system testing
  • The automation industry

Why should you use BS EN 61069-3 - System functionality assessment

System evaluation is required to assess whether the system is meeting the objectives it was designed to meet, such as: controlling access, identifying people in specific areas, detecting unauthorized entry, and detecting motion in restricted areas.

BS EN 61069-3 provides you with analytical evaluation techniques including coverage, configurability, and flexibility technique. BS EN 61069-3 provides you guidance on the type of information (task by task and/or information translation) which should be given in the SRD for the purpose of performance assessment.

Within BS EN 61069-3 several evaluation techniques are suggested. Other methods may be applied, but in all cases, the assessment report should provide references to documents describing the techniques used.

BS EN 61069-3 also provides you guidance in selecting techniques from a set of options (with references) for evaluating the functionality.
