What is BS EN 61069-2 Assessment of basic control systems about?

BS EN 61069-2 is the second part of the IEC 61069 multi-series that discusses industrial process measurement, control and automation.

BS EN 61069-2 specifies the methodology in the assessment of a basic control system (BCS) based on the basic concepts of BS EN 61069-1.

BS EN 61069-2 describes the method for analysing, weighing the relative importance of the various system properties and influencing factors, and determining an assessment program.

Who is BS EN 61069-2 Assessment of basic control systems for?

BS EN 61069-2 on assessment methodology for basic control systems (BCS) is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of basic control systems
  • Industries that use basic control systems
  • Assessment agencies

Why should you use BS EN 61069-2 Assessment of basic control systems

BCSs are sufficiently complex so that a totally comprehensive assessment inevitably requires an expenditure of effort and time that is neither practical nor cost-effective. It is therefore important to analyse and specify the objectives of the assessment carefully before an assessment program is planned.

BS EN 61069-2 segregates the assessment into phases to maintain uniformity and accuracy in assessment. In these phases, BS EN 61069-2 defines the objectives of the assessment and design and layout of the assessment. BS EN 61069-2 also guides you through the planning and execution phases of the assessment.

Overall, the methodology described in BS EN 61069-2 enables you to thoroughly evaluate the system properties of BCS and provide an accurate assessment.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 61069-2:2016 replaces IEC 61069-2:1993. BS EN 61069-2:2016 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to IEC 61069-2:1993:

  • Reorganization of the material of IEC 61069-2:1993 to make the overall set of standards more organized and consistent
  • IEC TS 62603-1:2014 has been incorporated into this edition
