What is BS EN 60534-8-1 - Noise in control valve about?

BS EN 60534-8-1 is a technical specification as a part of IEC 60534-8 series that defines equipment, methods, and procedures for obtaining laboratory measurements of sound pressure levels radiated by control valves and/or associated piping configurations, including fixed restrictions, through which compressible fluids are passing. Control valves discharging to atmosphere are excluded from BS EN 60534-8-1.

Method A is a uniform method of measuring the radiated noise from the valve and associated test piping and allows a comparison of various measuring results which is beneficial for both user and manufacturer. The noise criteria are expressed by determining the sound pressure level of the valve under consideration. Method B is a procedure for measuring the sound pressure levels within pipe systems upstream and downstream of the valve under fixed operating conditions. Since inaccuracies due to the pipe transmission are eliminated, this method is preferred for the evaluation of the acoustical characteristic of valves.

The noise characteristics to be determined are useful for the following reasons:

  • To compare the performance of different valves
  • To plan measures for noise abatement
  • To determine acoustical characteristics of valves and valve assemblies
  • To enable proper sizing of sound absorbers
  • To determine possible adverse effects on ultra-sonic flow meter measurements

Who is BS EN 60534-8-1 - Noise in control valve for?

BS EN 60534-8-1 on noise in control valve is useful for:

  • The oil and gas industry
  • The water and steam industry
  • Control valves manufacturers
  • Quality control personnel
  • Industrial controller manufacturers
  • The aerodynamics industry

Why should you use BS EN 60534-8-1 - Noise in control valve

Control valves serve a wide range of functions and are essential components of industrial control systems. They regulate the flow of fluids such as chemicals, gas, and steam. The expected sound pressure level radiated by a control valve is a complicated calculation, and the permitted noise level in the installed location cannot be stated as a single value that must be supplied in all situations. This is especially true in situations where other noise sources are close by and have an additive effect.

BS EN 60534-8-1 guidelines provide manufacturers with test methods and instructions for test procedures for test fluid, background noise, and test data accuracy. BS EN 60534-8-1 ensures users with reliability, credibility, and durability in control valves. BS EN 60534-8-1 guidelines help users with high-quality and superior products.
