ISO 4411 discusses hydraulic fluid power. Hydraulic fluid power is generally used for low-pressure, high volume flow applications. Why should you use ISO 4411 - Hydraulic fluid power?

In hydraulic fluid power systems, power is transmitted and controlled through a liquid under pressure within an enclosed circuit. Hydraulic fluid power valves control the direction, pressure, or flow rate of the fluid in the system. When fluid flows through a valve, it encounters some resistance, which results in a loss of pressure; this loss is called the pressure differential. ISO 4411 is intended to unify testing methods for hydraulic fluid power valves to enable the pressure differential/flow characteristics of different valves to be compared.

Flow rate is a rate of flow at the point of measurement. In other words, flow measurement, a quantification of bulk fluid movement. Mass flow rate, the mass of a substance which passes per unit of time. Volumetric flow rate, the volume of fluid which passes per unit time. Using ISO 4411 you can specify methods for determining differential pressure/flow rate characteristics of hydraulic fluid power valve.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS ISO 4411:2019 supersedes BS ISO 4411:2008. BS ISO 4411:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 4411:2008.

These include:

  • “Volume flow rate” is replaced with “flow rate”
  • "Flow rate symbol “qv” is replaced with “q
  • Updated and improved quality of figure 1 and figure 2
