What is ISO 10770-3 about?  

ISO 10770 is a series on hydraulic fluid power. Hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinders are devices that change fluid pressure energy into mechanical energy. They are also known as actuators and have been widely used in various control devices. ISO 10770-3 describes test methods for determining the performance characteristics of electrically modulated hydraulic pressure control valves. 

ISO 10770-3 describes methods of testing electro-hydraulic pressure relief and pressure reducing valves. These types of electro-hydraulic valves prevent the pressure in a hydraulic system from rising above a level defined or set by an electrical input signal. 

ISO 10770-3 has been prepared with the intention of improving the uniformity of valve testing and hence the consistency of recorded valve performance data so that these data can be used for system design, regardless of the data source.

Why should you use ISO 10770-3 

Electrically modulated hydraulic control valves are electrically operated valve that controls how hydraulic fluid is sent to an actuator. The electrically modulated hydraulic control as mentioned in ISO 10770-3 prevents the pressure in a hydraulic system from rising above a level defined or set by an electrical input signal.  Relief valves are used to control the pressure in a closed volume by increasing the flow out of the volume if the pressure exceeds the set pressure level. The excess flow is dumped directly into a tank. 

Reducing valves are used to control the pressure in a closed volume by restricting the flow into the volume if the pressure exceeds the set pressure level. Using ISO 10770-3 you can describe test methods for determining the performance characteristics of electrically modulated hydraulic pressure control valves.
