What is ISO 232741 - Non-externally chargeable vehicles about?

ISO 23274 is a series of international standards on hybrid-electric road vehicles that discusses non-externally chargeable vehicles.

ISO 232741 is the first part of the ISO 23274 series of documents that specifies a chassis dynamometer test procedure to measure the exhaust emissions and the electric energy and fuel consumption for the vehicles.

ISO 232741 proposes procedures for correcting the measured emissions and fuel consumption of hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs), in order to obtain the values when the state of charge (SOC) of the RESS does not remain the same between the beginning and the end of an ADT.

ISO 232741 applies to vehicles with the following characteristics:

  • Vehicles classified as passenger cars or light-duty trucks, as defined in the relevant regional applicable driving test (ADT) standard
  • The nominal energy of the rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) is at least 2 % of the total energy consumption over an ADT
  • Internal combustion engine (ICE) only using liquid fuels (for example, gasoline and diesel fuel).

ISO 232741 can also be applied to measurement procedures for exhaust emissions and fuel consumption of externally chargeable HEVs when a vehicle is not externally charged and operated only in the charge sustaining (CS) state.

Who is ISO 232741 - Non-externally chargeable vehicles for?

ISO 232741 on hybrid electric road vehicles is useful for:

  • Designers and manufacturers of electric road vehicles
  • Manufacturers of vehicle battery
  • Manufacturers of electrically operated devices

Why should you use ISO 232741 - Non-externally chargeable vehicles

An exhaust gas measurement system for onboard vehicles has been developed, which enables the direct and continuous determination of the exhaust mass emissions in vehicles on the road.

ISO 232741 navigates you through the test conditions and instrumentation of the relevant regional ADT in accordance with ambient temperature, vehicle conditions, chassis dynamometer conditions and test instrumentation.

ISO 232741 provides a test procedure on the measurement of exhaust emissions and fuel consumption.

ISO 232741 gives the correction procedure by the correction coefficient of measured fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

Overall, ISO 23274-1 could assist you in measuring a vehicle’s exhaust emissions and fuel consumption, maintaining the reliability of the onboard system and providing a very informative perspective of a vehicle's exhaust emissions behaviour on the road.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS ISO 232741:2019 supersedes BS ISO 232741:2013. BS ISO 232741:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 232741:2013. These include:

  • The content of ISO/TR 11955:2008, Hybrid electric road vehicles —Guidelines for charge balance measurement was merged with this document as Annex D.
