What is BS EN 60704-2-6 - Determination of airborne acoustical noise of tumble dryers about?

BS EN 60704-2-6 is a European standard that discusses the determination of airborne acoustical noise of tumble dryers. BS EN 60704-2-6 applies to single-unit electric tumble dryers for household and similar use intended for placing on the floor against a wall, for building-in or placing under a counter, a kitchen worktop or under a sink, for wall-mounting or on a counter. For the purpose of BS EN 60704-2-6, washer-dryer combinations, when operated as a dryer, are considered a tumble dryer.

BS EN 60704-2-6 is also applicable for gas-fired electric tumble dryers.

Who is BS EN 60704-2-6 - Determination of airborne acoustical noise of tumble dryers for?

BS EN 60704-2-6 on determination of airborne acoustical noise of tumble dryers is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers of tumble dryers
  • Quality control personnel
  • Airborne sound transmission team

Why should you use BS EN 60704-2-6 - Determination of airborne acoustical noise of tumble dryers?

Noise generated by tumble dryers is partially of mechanical, electrical, and aerodynamic origin. It is recommended to consider the determination of noise levels comprehensive BS EN 60704-2-6 provides the testing procedure that covers many aspects of properties and performance of household electric tumble dryers.

BS EN 60704-2-6 provides requirements for the determination of acoustical noise of electric tumble dryers which help to reduce airborne acoustical noise and manufacture tumble dryers with low noise. BS EN 60704-2-6 provides requirements for electric tumble dryers under normal operating conditions on the load of clothing which helps when buying a tumble dryer.

This helps you to form a basis for engineering action in the development stages of new pieces of equipment, or in deciding on means for sound insulation.

What is changed since the last update?

BS EN 60704-2-6:2012 supersedes BS EN 60704-2-6:2004 which is withdrawn.

BS EN 60704-2-6:2012 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 60704-2-6:2004. These include:
