What is BS EN 60335-2-26 about?  

BS EN 60335-2-26 deals with the safety of electric clocks having a rated voltage not more than 250 V. 

BS EN 60335-2-26 deals with the foreseeable hazards presented by appliances and machines that are encountered by all persons. 

Note1: Examples of appliances that are within the scope of this standard are 

  • Alarm clocks 
  • Spring-driven clocks with an electrically operated winding mechanism 
  • Clocks incorporating driving means other than motors 

Note2: BS EN 60335-2-26 does not consider: 

  • Children playing with the appliance 
  • The use of the appliance by young children 
  • The use of the appliance by young children without supervision 

It is recognized that very vulnerable people may have needs beyond the level addressed in BS EN 60335-2-26 

Note3: BS EN 60335-2-26 standard does not apply to: 

  • Battery-operated clocks 
  • Appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes 
  • Appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour, or gas) 
  • Clocks have other functions, whether in combination with time indication, such as expert control clocks and timers for cooking ranges, washing machines and similar appliances 
  • Clocks for "clocking-in" purposes 
  • Clocks incorporating electronic circuits only
