What is BS EN 100254 about?

BS EN 10025 is a series of European standards on structural steel that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality steel and steel products. BS EN 100254 is the fourth part of a series of documents on structural steel. BS EN 100254 specifies technical delivery conditions for flat and long products of hot rolled weldable fine grain structural steels in the thermomechanical rolled condition in the grades and qualities given in Tables 1 to 3 (chemical composition) and Tables 4 to 6 (mechanical properties) in thickness ≤ 150 mm.

The steels specified in this document are specially intended for use in heavily loaded parts of welded structures such as bridges, flood gates, storage tanks, water supply tanks, etc., for service at ambient and low temperatures.

Who is BS EN 100254 for?

BS EN 100254 on hot rolled products of structural steels is relevant to:

  • Fine-grain structural steel manufacturers
  • Testing and assessment facilities
  • Mechanical engineer

Why should you use BS EN 100254?

The thermo mechanically rolled fine-grain structural steel is characterized by minimum yield strength, good weldability, and high resistance to brittle cracking. They are used above all for highly stressed welded structures in the construction of bridges and steel structures.

BS EN 100254 provide guidance on provides guidance on the manufacturing process, chemical composition, mechanical properties, weldability, hot-dip zinc-coating, surface properties, dimensions, tolerances on dimensions, shape, and mass of fine-grain structural steels products. BS EN 100254 specify tests to be carried out for inspection steel which helps you to maintain the quality of steel. BS EN 100254 exemplifies the required dimensions and tolerances that help you achieve precision in terms of product functionality.

As a user of BS EN 100254, you can be ensured of all the properties of fine-grain structural steels. With obedience and compliance to BS EN 100254, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality flat and long products of hot rolled weldable fine grain structural steels in the thermomechanical rolled condition. BS EN 100254 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product. With BS EN 100254 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 100254:2019 supersedes BS EN 100254:2004, which is withdrawn.

The main changes with respect to the previous edition are listed below:

  • Part 4 is now a stand-alone standard for technical delivery conditions including the preparation of samples and test pieces, the test methods, the marking, labeling and packaging, and the drawings
  • For applications under the CPR this document and part 1 are used together
  • Requirements for elements not defined were added to 7.2.1 and 7.2.2
  • Option 33 was added, option 3 was renumbered to option 24, and option 9 was deleted
  • Si-content in 7.2.4 was changed, references were updated and document editorial revised
  • 7.4.3 concerning hot-dip zinc coating was modified, the key to figure a.1 was updated, steel grade s500m was added
  • Annex b concerning the corresponding euro norms deleted
