What is BS EN 100255 about?

BS EN 10025 is a series of European standards on structural steel that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality steel and steel products. BS EN 100255 is the fifth part of a series of documents on structural steel. BS EN 100255 specifies technical delivery conditions for flat and long products of hot rolled steels with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance in the grades and qualities given in Tables 2 and 3 (chemical composition) and Tables 4 and 5 (mechanical properties) in the usual delivery conditions as given in 6.3.

The thicknesses in which products of the steel grades and qualities specified in this document can be supplied are given in Table 1.

Who is BS EN 100255 for?

BS EN 100255 on hot rolled products of structural steels is relevant to:

  • Steel manufacturers
  • Testing and assessment facilities
  • Mechanical engineer

Why should you use BS EN 100255?

Structural steel is a category of steel used for making construction materials in a variety of shapes. Many structural steel shapes take the form of an elongated beam having a profile of a specific cross-section.

BS EN 100255 provides guidance on the manufacturing process, chemical composition, mechanical properties, weldability, surface properties, dimensions, tolerances on dimensions, shape, and mass of structural steels. BS EN 100255 specify tests to be carried out for inspection steel which helps you to maintain the quality of steel. BS EN 100255 exemplifies the required mechanical property and chemical property that helps you achieve precision in terms of product functionality.

As a user of BS EN 100255, you can be ensured of all the properties of structural steels with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance. With obedience and compliance to BS EN 100255, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality corrosion-resistant structural steels. BS EN 100255 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product. With BS EN 100255 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 100255:2019 supersedes BS EN 100255:2004, which is withdrawn.

The main changes concerning the previous edition are listed below:

  • Part 5 is now a stand-alone standard for technical delivery conditions including the preparation of samples and test pieces, the test methods, the marking, labeling and packaging, and the drawings
  • For applications under the CPR this document and part 1 are to be used together
  • Requirements for elements not defined were added to 7.2.1 and 7.2.2
  • Option 33 were added, options 9 and 21 were deleted, the key to figuring a.1 was updated, references were updated and document editorial revised
  • Steel grades S355J4, S420J0W, S420J2W, S420J4W, S460J0W, S460J2W, and S460J4W were added to tables 1 to 5
  • Annex b concerning the corresponding euro norms deleted
