What is BS EN 100253 about?

BS EN 10025 is a series of European standards on structural steel that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality steel and steel products. BS EN 100253 is the third part of a series of documents on structural steel. BS EN 100253 technical delivery conditions for flat and long products of hot rolled weldable fine grain structural steels in the normalized/normalized rolled delivery condition in the grades and qualities given in Tables 1 to 3 (chemical composition) and Tables 4 to 6 (mechanical properties) in thickness ≤ 250 mm.

The steels specified in BS EN 100253 are specially intended for use in heavily loaded parts of welded structures such as bridges, flood gates, storages tanks, water supply tanks, etc., for service at ambient and low temperatures.

Who is BS EN 100253 for?

BS EN 100253 on hot rolled products of structural steels is relevant to:

  • Fine-grain structural steel manufacturers
  • Testing and assessment facilities
  • Mechanical engineer

Why should you use BS EN 100253?

Fine-grain steels have good cold formability and toughness. They have a fine grain structure due to the low carbon content and micro-alloying elements. Fine-grain structure and high purity guarantee excellent properties for various uses.

BS EN 100253 provides guidance on the manufacturing process, chemical composition, mechanical properties, surface properties, dimensions, tolerances on dimensions, shape, and mass of fine-grain structural steels products. BS EN 100253 specify tests to be carried out for inspection steel which helps you to maintain the quality of steel. BS EN 100253 exemplifies the required dimensions and tolerances that help you achieve precision in terms of product functionality.

As a user of BS EN 100252, you can be ensured of all the properties of fine-grain structural steels. With obedience and compliance to BS EN 100253, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality fine-grain structural steels products. BS EN 100253 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product. With BS EN 100253 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 100253:2019 supersedes BS EN 100253:2004, which is withdrawn.

The main changes concerning the previous edition are listed below:

  • Part 3 is now a stand-alone standard for technical delivery conditions including the preparation of samples and test pieces, the test methods, the marking, labeling and packaging, and the drawings
  • For applications under the CPR this document and part 1 are used together
  • Requirements for elements not defined were added to 7.2.1 and 7.2.2
  • Option 33 was added, option 3 was renumbered to option 24, and option 9 was deleted
  • Si-content in 7.2.4 was changed, 7.4.3 concerning hot-dip zinc coating was modified
  • Key to figure a.1 was updated, references were updated and the document was editorially revised
  • Annex B concerning the corresponding euro norms was deleted
