What is BS EN IEC 63044‑4 about?

BS EN IEC 63044‑4 provides the functional safety requirements for HBES/BACS. It defines the functional safety requirements for the interface of equipment intended to be connected to an HBES/BACS network.

BS EN IEC 63044‑4 is a safety standard intended to ensure that Home and building electronic systems (HBES) and building automation and control systems (BACS) are protected from any probable threats when devices are interconnected.

BS EN IEC 63044‑4 gives technical terms and definitions, general requirements, requirements for functional safety for home and building electronic systems (HBES) and building automation and control systems (BACS).

Note 1: BS EN IEC 63044‑4 does not provide functional safety requirements for safety-related systems.

Note 2: BS EN IEC 63044‑4 does not apply to interfaces to other networks.

Note 3: BS EN IEC 63044‑4 does not provide requirements on data protection and security.

Note 4: BS EN IEC 63044‑4 applies to home and building systems (HBES) in general and specifically to systems conforming to the home electronic system (HES).

Who is BS EN IEC 63044‑4 for?

BS EN IEC 63044‑4 on functional safety requirements for HBES and BSCS is applicable to:

  • Manufacturers of electronic and control components
  • Suppliers and dealers for electronic and control components
  • Retailers and distributors of various electronic and control components
  • Service providers and installers for electronic and control components
  • Building automation monitoring agencies

Why should you use BS EN IEC 63044‑4?

The growing use of home and building networks to interconnect devices introduces additional challenges to maintaining functional safety because of possible chances of device interactions. This is where your BS EN IEC 63044‑4 addresses the risks of connecting devices to a home or building network, enabling the data exchanges and remote control from your home or building.

BS EN IEC 63044‑4 provides you the safety operation of devices and appliances when installed into and operating on a communications network in a home or building where devices are interconnected.

BS EN IEC 63044‑4 specifies the general functional safety requirements for devices connected to your home or building network which follows the principles of basic standard for functional safety. It helps you to cover the functional safety issues related to device and device installations.
