What is BS EN 14399-8 - Structural bolting assemblies about?

BS EN 14399 is a series of European standards on structural bolting assemblies that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality hexagon fit bolt and nut assemblies. BS EN 14399-8 is the eighth part of a series of documents on structural bolting assemblies. BS EN 14399-8 specifies together with EN 14399-1 and EN 14399-2, the requirements for assemblies of high-strength structural bolts and nuts of system HV suitable for preloaded joints with large width across flats, thread sizes M12 to M36, and property classes 10.9/10.

Who is BS EN 14399-8 - Structural bolting assemblies for?

BS EN 14399-8 on high-strength structural bolting assemblies for preloading is beneficial for

  • Manufacturer of high-strength structural bolt
  • Structural engineer

Why should you use BS EN 14399-8 - Structural bolting assemblies

Bolt preload ultimately allows a fully tightened bolt to survive in an application where an untightened or loose assembly would fail very quickly. BS EN 14399-8 provides guidance on dimensions of fit bolts and nuts, designation of the bolt, nut assemblies, functional characteristics of the bolt, nut, washers assembly which helps the user to preload the bolt and nuts.

As a user of BS EN 14399-8, you can be ensured of the requirements for assemblies of high-strength structural bolts and nuts. With obedience and compliance to BS EN 14399-8, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality hexagon fit bolt and nut assemblies.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 14399-8 supersedes BS EN 14399-8:2007, which is withdrawn

In comparison with EN 14399-8:2007, the following modifications have been made:

  • The table containing the overview of the composition of bolting assemblies and component marking has been added
  • The coefficient of variation of the k-factor, Vk, was changed from 0,10 to 0,06
  • Specifications for the designation of the bolting assemblies have been revised
  • Annex A with detailed specifications on clamp lengths and grip lengths has been added.
