What is BS EN 438-6 – Exterior-grade compact laminates about?
BS EN 438-6 is the sixth part of an international standard used for High-pressure decorative laminates (HPL). BS EN 438-6 classifies the Exterior-grade compact laminates which is useful in producing and installing good quality laminates.
BS EN 438-6 applies to exterior-grade compact laminates of thickness 2 mm and greater produced by using a high-pressure process. It specifies requirements for standard and flame-retardant laminates intended for use under outdoor weather conditions such as direct sunlight rain and frost. Two levels of performance are specified; one for moderate exterior conditions, and the other for severe exterior conditions.
Note: EN 438-2 specifies the methods of test relevant to this part of EN 438.
Who is BS EN 438-6 - Exterior-grade compact laminates for?
BS EN 438-6 on high-pressure decorative laminates (HPL) is useful for:
- Constructors of buildings
- Architects
- Interior designers
- Civil engineers
- Manufacturers of laminates
Why should you use BS EN 438-6 - Exterior-grade compact laminates?
Exterior-grade compact laminates are useful in decorating surface materials. These exterior-grade compact laminates are the most durable decorative laminates. BS EN 438-6 helps in determining the characteristics of exterior-grade compact laminates by high tensile strength assessment. This helps in resisting the laminates from high impact, thermal shock and it is also weather and corrosion.
Using BS EN 438-6 you can ensure the sustainability of these laminates in different conditions. By applying BS EN 438-6 you can manufacture and install better quality exterior-grade compact laminates.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 438-6:2016 supersedes BS EN 438-6:2005. BS EN 438-6:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 438-6:2005. These include:
- Table 2-dimensional tolerance requirements have been revised
- Table 3 physical properties has been revised
- Annex B has been deleted
