What is ISO 21904-2 about?

ISO 21904-2 is an international standard series that covers the health and safety in welding and allied processes.

ISO 21904-2 is the second part of a series of documents that specifies a method for testing equipment for the separation of welding fume in order to determine whether its separation efficiency meets specified requirements.

Note: ISO 21904-2 applicable to equipment that is manufactured after its publication.

Who is ISO 21904-2 for?

ISO 21904-2 on health and safety in welding and allied processes is applicable to:

  • Machine manufacturers (small, medium, and large organizations)
  • Health and safety bodies (regulators, accident prevention organizations, market surveillance, etc.)
  • Machine users/employers (small, medium, and large organizations)
  • Machine users/employees (e. g. trade unions, organizations for people with special needs)
  • Service providers, e. g. for maintenance (small, medium, and large organizations)

Why should you use ISO 21904-2?

In the fabrication industry, it is important to control exposure to welding fume. As inflammable gases are used in welding, the safety of the welding process is a must. For this, ventilation equipment is used to capture and separate fumes generated by welding procedures.

ISO 21904-2 provides you with guidelines and methods of control to capture the fumes and gases close to their source before they enter a worker’s breathing zone. It is important that welding equipment has high separation efficiency so that as little fume as possible is recirculated or exhausted.

ISO 21904-2 provides a test method for determining the efficiency of welding fume separation equipment and the requirements of the test method which helps you in improving the efficiency of the welding process. Thus, contributing to health and safety in welding and allied processes.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 21904-2:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 15012-1:2013, which is withdrawn.
