What is ISO 21904-4 about?
ISO 21904-4 is an international standard series that covers the health and safety in welding and allied processes.
ISO 21904-4 is the fourth part of a multi-series standard that specifies two methods for establishing the minimum air volume flow rate. one method is dedicated for use with captor hoods, nozzles, and slot nozzles with a ratio of slot length to hose diameter of 8:1 or less. The other method is dedicated to using on-gun extraction devices.

Why should you use ISO 21904-4?
In the fabrication industry, it is important to control exposure to welding fume. For a particular capture device, the air velocity to capture welding fume can only be achieved by applying a minimum air volume flow rate. The capture devices need to be used with exhaust systems that provide, at least, the minimum air volume flow rate.
ISO 21904-4 provides you guidelines and methods of control to capture the fumes and gases close to their source before they enter a worker’s breathing zone. It is important that welding equipment has high separation efficiency so that as little fume as possible is recirculated or exhausted.
