What is BS EN 14854 about? 

BS EN 14854 on glass packaging specifies dimensions of neck finishes for aerosol and spray glass containers, to guarantee tight sealing of valves or pumps with ferrules. 

BS EN 14854 applies to glass containers with a nominal diameter of the neck finish around 11 mm, 13 mm, 15 mm, 17 mm, 18 mm and 20 mm for both molded and tubular glass neck finishes. 

Note: These neck finishes are commonly called FEA 11, 13, 15, 17, 18 and 20.

Why should you use BS EN 14854? 

The dimensions of the neck finish for aerosol and spray glass containers need to be precise. An improper finish can result in leakage and compromise the functionality of aerosol or spray glass containers. 

BS EN 14854 provides the dimensions for a molded glass aerosol and spray glass container with a neck finish diameter that will help tight sealing of valves or pumps with ferrules. Using specifications provided in BS EN 14854 you will be able to give your end-users leak-proof spray bottles. 

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN 14854:2021 supersedes EN 14854:2005, which has been withdrawn. 

The main technical changes compared to EN 14854:2005 are as follows: 

  • Clear separation of the specifications for tubular glass from those for molded glass 
  • The height of the sealing bead on molded glass only now has tolerances (and therefore the tolerance of the flange height is slightly increased) 
  • The dimension F has been recalculated to be more consistent with the finished geometry (driven by B max) for both molded and tubular glass 
  • Addition of some complementary specifications for molded glass: distance (G) from the lug to under flange, minimum height (H min) for a standard skirt and some angles and radii 
  • Introduction of nomenclature of the specified dimensions
