What is ISO 12821 - Glass packaging about?
ISO 12821 is an international standard that focuses on glass packaging and dimensions. ISO 12821 specifies the dimensions of the 26 mm tall crown finish for glass bottles containing
beverages. The tall crown finish is designed to use a metal crown cap. ISO 12821 also specifies the dimensional requirements that are of direct importance to the customer/bottler and recommendations for cap application.
The gasket material and profile are not specified as several different profiles are available depending on the end-use and supplier-specific technology. The requirement placed on the gasket profile design is that it needs to be fit for the purpose used in conjunction with glass finishes in reference.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 12821:2019 supersedes BS EN ISO 12821:2015. BS EN ISO 12821:2019 includes some technical changes concerning BS EN ISO 12821:2015. These include:
- Deletion of the sentence below Figure 1: "A controlled bore of 16,6 mm to 15,6 mm between 1,5 mm and 3,0 mm from the top is recommended for bottles which are to be resealed and sterilized"
- Modification of footnotes to Figures 1, 4 and 5 and correction of Figure 5 for the reference line of the bore diameter indication
- Further details on the crimping edge ("P" point)
- Deletion of reference to some Cetie documents
- Editorial corrections
