What is BS EN 13022-1 - Structural sealant glazing about?

BS EN 13022-1 is a European Standard. BS EN 13022-1 is the 1st part of the structural sealant glazing series.

BS EN 13022-1 specifies requirements for the suitability for use of supported and unsupported glass products for use in “Structural Sealant Glazing” (SSG) applications. Four schematic drawings of SSG systems are also illustrated using figures and drawings. BS EN 13022-1 on glass products is considered as a supplement to the requirements specified in the corresponding standards about verifying the suitability for use in SSG systems.

Note 1: Only soda lime silicate glasses are taken into consideration in BS EN 13022-1.

Note 2: Plastic glazing is excluded from BS EN 13022-1.

Note 3: When the outer seal of the insulating glass unit has a structural function and/or is exposed to UV radiation without any protection, the only silicone-based sealant is permitted in the construction of the unit.

Who is BS EN 13022-1 - Structural sealant glazing for?

BS EN 13022-1 on structural sealant glazing is useful for:

  • Building Engineers, Constructors, and Architects
  • Entities involved in Building Research and Development
  • Property and Buildings Directorates
  • Flat Glass Manufacturers
  • Glass and Glazing Manufacturers
  • Glass Technologists

Why should you use BS EN 13022-1 - Structural sealant glazing?

Structural sealant glazing is a technique for attaching glass to a supporting framework. This technique is used in a variety of ceramic and glass applications. It is used not only as a powerful method for increasing life expectancy but also for its aesthetic properties.

It has a high performance weather seal as well as a structural bonding element. Standardization is necessary to ensure efficient fabrication as well as better quality. BS EN 13022-1 provides the guidelines for the suitability of supported and unsupported glass products for use in "Structural Sealant Glazing" (SSG) applications.

BS EN 13022-1 deal with glass products for structural sealant glazing systems, structural glass product installation on building facades, and UV-resistant and structural sealant for use in structural sealant glazing.

Compliance with BS EN 13022-1 assures maximum safety and helps in adhering to best industry practices.
