What is ISO 22282-6- Geohydraulic testing with water permeability tests about?

ISO 22282 is an international standard that discusses geotechnical investigation and testing.

ISO 22282-6 is the sixth part of the series that specifies requirements for the determination of the local permeability in soils and rocks below or above the groundwater table in a closed system by the water permeability tests as part of the geotechnical investigation services according to EN 1997-1 and EN 1997-2.

Note: The water pressure test in rock is covered by ISO 22282-3.

Who is ISO 22282-6- Geohydraulic testing with water permeability tests for?

ISO 22282-6 on geohydraulic testing is useful for:

  • Geotechnical investigation and testing
  • Geotechnical contractors and consultants
  • Hydrogeologists
  • Civil engineers
  • Geotechnical engineers

Why should you use ISO 22282-6- Geohydraulic testing with water permeability tests

Geotechnical testing is carried out by geotechnical engineers, geotechnical technicians, or engineering geologists to determine the features of a worksite, such as the physical attributes.

The tests are used to determine the permeability coefficient k in low permeability soil and rock lower than 10−8 m/s. It can also be used to determine the transmissivity T and the storage coefficient S.

The principle of water permeability tests in a borehole using closed systems is based on an instantaneous change of the hydraulic head in a test section. The dissipation of imposed head is recorded as a function of time.

Water permeability tests in a borehole using closed systems as part of geotechnical investigation and testing in accordance with ISO 22282-6 can assist you in making better decisions that positively impact the project's safety, cost-effectiveness, design, and implementation. The results of the permeability tests provides indications on the stability of foundations, shear strength and conditions of seepage, that are crucial for the structural integrity of your engineering works.
