What is ISO 10722 - Geosynthetics mechanical damage about?
Geosynthetics are synthetic polymeric products used to stabilize terrain and solve civil engineering problems. Geosynthetics are preferred due to their durability and longevity.
ISO 10722 describes an index test procedure for simulating mechanical damage to geosynthetics, caused by granular material, under repeated loading. The damage is assessed visually and by the loss of tensile strength.
Other reference tests can be used to assess the damage caused by this test. The test method described is an index test procedure, using a standard granular material, and is not intended to be used for the derivation of a reduction factor for geosynthetic reinforcement.
Who is ISO 10722 - Geosynthetics mechanical damage for?
ISO 10722 on geosynthetics mechanical damage is useful for:
- Manufacturers of geosynthetics
- Testing laboratories / researchers
- Product development / innovation teams
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 10722 - Geosynthetics mechanical damage?
Mechanical properties are relevant for the survivability (resistance to degradation) of the geosynthetics to the installation process and, for example, for their capability to perform functions such as protection or separation.
ISO 10722 walks you through the specifications of the test equipment, the test procedures, and the characteristics of the aggregate (corundum). Using ISO 10722 guidelines you would be able to assess the survivability of geosynthetics and enable your customers to plan accordingly.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 10722:2019 supersedes ISO 10722:2007. BS EN ISO 10722:2019 includes some technical and editorial changes with respect to ISO 10722:2007. These include:
- ISO 10722 has been technically revised in size of test specimens, applied pressures, standard granular material, now allowing the use of other granular materials for the test, standard granular material, visual assessment of the damage, results referred to the property in the reference test agreed upon by parties, results referred to the property in the reference test agreed upon by parties
- Test procedure for other granular material has been added
- The normative references have been updated
