What is ISO 25619-1 about?
ISO 25619-1 is a series on geosynthetics. Geosynthetics are synthetic products used to stabilize terrain. They are generally polymeric products used to solve civil engineering problems. ISO 25619-1 specifies index test methods for determining the compressive creep properties of geosynthetic products. The test specimens are subjected either to normal compressive loading or to a combination of normal compressive loading and shear loading.
Who is ISO 25619-1 for?
ISO 25619-1 on the determination of compression behaviour is useful for:
- Geosynthetics manufacturer
- Geosynthetic testing institutions
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 25619-1?
Geosynthetic are generally polymeric products used to solve civil engineering problems. Creep is defined as the time-dependent deformation of a material under-maintained loading. It can occur in both (ex)tension and compression. It occurs in all construction materials although it is most significant in polymer materials. ISO 25619-1 determines the compression behaviour of geosynthetics.
By determining the compression behaviour of geosynthetics it will give the idea about the thickness decrease over time of the geosynthetics. So, for better long-term performance of the geosynthetics, the time duration of it should be determined. The long working life of geosynthetics will help civil engineers for building the best quality houses, roads, etc. best quality homes or roads will build the trust of the users in the market. Using ISO 25619-1 you can specify index test methods for determining the compressive creep properties of geosynthetic products.
What is changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 25619-1:2021 supersedes ISO 25619-1:2008. BS EN ISO 25619-1:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 25619-1:2008. These include:
- Normative references have been updated
- Dimension and shape of the specimen for several types of geosynthetics have been introduced
- Calculation of the correct area for structure in which loading is resisted at defined points or at defined lines have been introduced
- The drawing of a test apparatus for a compressive shear test that was not described in the test has been deleted
