What is ISO 4468 about?
ISO 4468 is an International Standard on gear hobs and its accuracy requirements. Compliance to ISO 4468 can impart a high degree of precision and accuracy in manufacturing gears.
ISO 4468 specifies requirements for the accuracy of general-purpose hobs of 0,5 modules to 40 module. These hobs are intended for producing gears that conform to ISO 53 and ISO 54.
ISO 4468 applies to hobs for spur and helical gears. It applies to solid (monobloc) and inserting blade hobs.
Note: The tolerances in this document were determined for gear hobs whose dimensions conform to ISO 2490, but with certain precautions, they can be applied to hobs not specified in ISO 4468.

Why should you use ISO 4468?

It is recommended that unique measuring methods be agreed before the hob is constructed where applications need measurements beyond those given in ISO 4468.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 4468:2020 supersedes BS ISO 4468:2009, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 4468:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 4468:2009. These include:
- Oversize tolerances: when the hob outside diameter exceeds the recommended size given in ISO 2490, the standard tolerances shall be increased by a factor of one-half of the per cent oversize
- Hob sizes: the standard hob sizes from ISO 2490 were added as Annex A
