What is ISO 5171-Gas welding equipment about? 

ISO 5171 is an International Standard that discusses gas welding equipment. 

ISO 5171 specifies requirements for Bourdon-tube pressure gauges normally used with compressed gas systems at pressures up to 30 MPa (300 bar) in welding, cutting, and allied processes. ISO 5171 also covers use for dissolved acetylene and for liquefied gases under pressure. 

The main objective of ISO 5171 is to provide best industry practices for measurement of force, weight and pressure that contribute to optimal performance of compressed gas systems.  

Note: ISO 5171 does not cover gauges for acetylene in acetylene-manufacturing plants.

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN ISO 5171:2019 supersedes BS EN ISO 5171:2010, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 5171:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 5171:2010. These include: 

  • Clause 7 has been revised and Clause 8 has been clarified regarding the amount of test samples to be used 
  • Editorial changes have been made 
  • Test B has been added in 5.2.1.2.3 for supplementary leakage rate under the testing conditions of 8.7.2
