What is BS EN 12007-2 - Functional requirements for polyethylene pipelines about?

BS EN 12007 is a series on gas infrastructure. Gas infrastructure refers to the pipelines used to gather, transport, and distribute natural gas from producing wells to end-use consumers. BS EN 12007-2 describes the specific functional requirements for polyethylene (PE) pipelines in addition to the general functional requirements of EN 12007-1 for:

  • A maximum operating pressure (MOP) up to and including 10 bar
  • An operating temperature between -20 °C and +40 °C

BS EN 12007-2 covers three types of pipes:

  • PE pipes including any identification stripes
  • PE pipes with co-extruded layers on either or both the outside and/or inside of the pipe
  • PE pipes with a peelable, contiguous thermoplastics additional layer on the outside of the pipe

Who is BS EN 12007-2 - Functional requirements for polyethylene pipelines for?

BS EN 12007-2 on functional requirements for polyethylene pipelines is useful for:

  • Gas infrastructure manufacturers
  • Gas pipes manufacturers
  • Design engineers

Why should you use BS EN 12007-2 - Functional requirements for polyethylene pipelines?

Gas infrastructure includes the facilities used in transportation, like compression and metering stations, storage services and natural gas processing facilities. BS EN 12007-2 specifies common basic principles for gas infrastructure. Users of BS EN 12007-2 should be aware that more detailed national standards and/or codes of practice may exist in the CEN member countries. BS EN 12007-2 is intended to be applied in association with these national standards and/or codes of practice setting out the above-mentioned basic principles.

In the event of conflicts in terms of more restrictive requirements in national legislation/regulation with the requirements of this European Standard, the national legislation/regulation takes precedence as illustrated in CEN/TR 13737 (all parts). CEN/TR 13737 (all parts) give clarification of all legislations/regulations applicable in a member state, if appropriate, more restrictive national requirements and a national contact point for the latest information. Using BS EN 12007-2 you can describe the specific functional requirements for polyethylene pipelines.
