What is BSI Flex 1906 about?
BSI Flex 1906 v1.0 provides guidance on standards relevant to specific assurance or integrity requirements within UK Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) to SAIL 3.
What does it cover?
The standard provides guidance to users by:
- Identifying standards serving as acceptable means of compliance for operational safety objectives.
- Covering containment requirements, ground risk class mitigations, and functional test-based methods.
- Considering expertise from diverse aviation stakeholders to enable UK SORA and uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) operations.
Why should you use the standard?
This guidance is intended to simplify use of standards to support UAS compliance.
It builds upon the output of Project Shepherd, a European project initiated by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Project Shepherd technically evaluated standards that could be used to meet the requirements defined by SORA.
BSI Flex 1906 was developed in collaboration with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to ensure that the standard provides guidance relevant with the UK implementation of SORA.
Who is it for?
The standard is valuable to UAS operators, technology, infrastructure providers, and aircraft manufacturers, as well as legislators, regulators, and insurers.
It may also be of use to the wider UK-based future flight ecosystem.
