What is PD CEN/TR 17086 about?

PD CEN/TR 17086 explains the reasoning behind the requirements and procedures mentioned under EN 13791. PD CEN/TR 17086 provides the reasoning behind why some concepts and procedures mentioned under EN 13791 were not adopted in its 2019 revised version.

BS EN 13791 covers two in-situ strength assessments. These include:

  • To estimate in situ characteristic compressive strength of a test region and/or in situ strength at specific locations
  • Assessment of compressive strength class of concrete supplied to a structure under construction where there is doubt about the compressive strength based on results of standard tests or doubt about the quality of execution

Note: Where a reference is cited to a paragraph without being preceded by a reference to a standard, the reference is to a paragraph in PD CEN/TR 17086.

Who is PD CEN/TR 17086 for?

PD CEN/TR 17086 on further guidance and background is useful for:

  • Construction industry
  • Regulatory bodies
  • Certification bodies
  • Testing laboratories
  • Users of BS EN 13791

Why should you use PD CEN/TR 17086?

PD CEN/TR 17086 is a companion guide for users of BS EN 13791, which is about ‘Assessment of in-situ compressive strength in structures and precast concrete components.’

PD CEN/TR 17086 helps in providing clarity on the practical applications of BS EN 13791 and provides explanations as to why certain concepts and procedures were left out, as compared to its 2007 version.

Overall, PD CEN/TR 17086 can be used to better implement the revised 2019 version of BS EN 13791 which is now considered as a single standard, to avoid duplication of requirements.
