This Publicly Available Specification (PAS) is intended to establish a minimum level of service and performance in organizations dealing with the moving of office or business equipment, furniture and goods as a service to commercial entities and other organizations.
This PAS specifies requirements for a commercial moving service. It is applicable to all forms of such service whatever the means of transport and handling or the type of property being moved, and whatever the type of customer organization, e.g. office-based, industrial/manufacturing, government body or other.
Distinction is made between the “service” in PAS 126-1:2008, and the “provision of the service” in PAS 126-2:2008. In this case, all the services agreed upon between the service provider and the customer within the framework of the contract, including characteristics which allow this said service to be assessed.
The systems of reference constitute a beneficial means of achieving the following objectives:
- to create a dialogue with customers which is favourable to the profession
- to permit customers to identify and compare the services offered by companies in order to benefit from the positive spin-off of fair competition in an open market
- to protect customers against provision of services, the characteristics of which may not be in compliance with the standards
- to allow the professionals of the trade to conduct their activity with the aid of technical specifications that are clearly defined by a common understanding.
This PAS has been developed in association with the British Association of Removers (BAR).
It is separate from, but related to, BS EN 12522-1, BS EN 12522-2, BS EN 14873-1 and BS EN 14873-2 covering furniture removal and storage services for private individuals.
