What is BS EN 13084-6 - Design and execution of chimneys’  steel liners about?

BS EN 13084-6 is the sixth part of the multiple series that is applicable to free-standing chimneys.

BS EN 13084-6 deals with special requirements and performance criteria for the design of lining systems made of steel for free-standing chimneys. It specifies the requirements for cylindrical steel liners as stated in EN 13084-1.

BS EN 13084-6 covers the design of the following three basic types of liners located in a load-bearing structure:

  • Base supported liner
  • Sectional liner
  • Top hung liner

Additionally, BS EN 13084-6 applies to single wall chimneys whose surface is in contact with flue gases.

Note: Liners built from prefabricated metal chimneys in accordance with EN 1856-1 and EN 1856-2 are installed as a base supported liners with additional supports and guides as defined in BS EN 13084-6

Who is BS EN 13084-6 - Design and execution of chimneys’ steel liners for?

BS EN 13084-6 on free-standing chimneys is useful for:

  • Contractors and architects
  • Environmental auditors
  • Chimney manufacturers and suppliers
  • Regulatory authorities
  • Testers of chimney
  • Installers of chimney

Why should you use BS EN 13084-6 - Design and execution of chimneys’ steel liners

BS EN 13084-6 specifies general design requirements of Gas flow calculations to determine the diameter of the liner which are covered by EN 13084-1. It includes a thermal action check to reduce the pressure drop, also reduce the mixing of flue gases.

BS EN 13084-6 assists you in the calculation method for combined flue gases with different temperatures to determine the variation of temperature.

Overall, BS EN 13084-6 will help you to design steel liners of free-standing chimneys.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 13084-6:2015 supersedes BS EN 13084-6:2004 which is withdrawn. The main changes compared to the previous edition are:

  • All normative references were updated
  • The reference in 6.1.3 was corrected to EN 1991-1-4:2005
