What is ISO 37155‑1 about?
ISO 37155 series discusses frameworks for the integration and operation of smart community infrastructures. ISO 37155‑1 elaborates requirements to manage interactions and to adopt adequate measures into planning and operation. ISO 37155‑1 describes a framework (a set of processes and methodologies) for smart community infrastructure interactions (interactions between multiple infrastructures, between infrastructures and stakeholders, and between infrastructures and the external environment) to ensure that such interactions are well identified and managed.
There are two potential use cases for ISO 37155‑1. The first is for greenfield sites, where all the smart community infrastructures can be designed and developed at the same time. This is of value to planners and investors of major new infrastructure developments.
The second builds on the first and will support efficient management of an existing urban area by taking into account the increasing interdependencies of the infrastructures on each other and the way they should be managed as a system of systems. ISO 37155‑1 will also take into account accelerating technological and environmental changes.
Note: ISO 37155‑1 describes a management case (not a management system), i.e., specific processes that an organization needs to follow in order to meet specific objectives of ISO 37155‑1.
Who is ISO 37155‑1 for?
ISO 37155‑1 on frameworks for the integration and operation of smart community infrastructures is useful for:
- Community leaders
- Government authorities
- City planning officials
- Real estate developers
- Industrialists
- Business owners in any sectors
Why should you use ISO 37155‑1?
Urban density is likely to increase for the foreseeable future, resulting in further urbanization complexity. From this perspective, a “smart community” approach is an important tool for addressing such urban challenges by integrating different forms of infrastructure in a rational and efficient manner.
Application of ISO 37155‑1 has various specific benefits for specific users but these are some of the general benefits:
- ISO 37155‑1 estimates the cost of operation and maintenance in the project planning and budgeting in the initial phase
- ISO 37155‑1 identifies issues and activities through the whole life cycle of smart community infrastructure and takes these into account as much as possible in planning and budgeting activities
- ISO 37155‑1 facilitates the allocation and understanding of responsibility related to the issues and activities among stakeholders of the smart community infrastructure
- ISO 37155‑1 helps you to achieve efficient allocation and optimization of energy and material resources, human resources and capital. This helps to reduce CO2 emissions and environmental loads
- ISO 37155‑1 facilitates coordination and cooperation between you and other stakeholders
ISO 37155‑1 helps you to design a framework to create a smart community infrastructure from the beginning or to improve the infrastructure of existing projects.
