What is BS EN 15165-Safety and hygiene requirements for forming machines about?

BS EN 15165 is a European standard on food processing machinery that discusses the safety and hygiene requirements for forming machines to ensure protection to workers against machinery hazards.

BS EN 15165 applies to forming machines, used for forming food products with a mould into portions.

BS EN 15165 applies to both machines standing on the floor and table-top machines, and to machines integrated with a processing line (i.e., interfaces, when the machine is combined with other machines).

BS EN 15165 covers the following auxiliary devices and interchangeable equipment:

  • Auxiliary devices:
  • Paper interleavers
  • Croquette attachment
  • Meat ball rollers
  • Stick inserters
  • Specific material/product conveyors
  • Specific lifting and tilting devices
  • Interchangeable equipment:
  • Croquette attachment
  • Meat ball rollers
  • Stick inserters
  • Specific material/product conveyors
  • Specific lifting and tilting devices

BS EN 15165 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events relevant to forming machines, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are foreseeable by the manufacturer.

BS EN 15165 deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations and events arising during the whole lifetime of the machine, including the phases of transport, assembly and installation, commissioning, maintenance, dismantling, disabling, and scrapping and use.

BS EN 15165 specifies requirements for the design, manufacture and operating of forming machines, e.g., for rissoles, hamburgers, in the following only referred to as machines.

BS EN 15165 specifies safety and hygiene requirements for design and manufacture of forming machines, which are used for forming food products into portions with a mould. The mould may have a sliding or rotary movement and is filled with product in one position and emptied in another.

Who is BS EN 15165-Safety and hygiene requirements for forming machines for?

BS EN 15165 on the safety and hygiene requirements for forming machines is useful for:

  • Forming machine manufacturers
  • Forming machine test personnel
  • Forming machine designers
  • Occupational health and safety departments
  • Risk assessment authorities
  • Quality assurance departments

Why should you use BS EN 15165-Safety and hygiene requirements for forming machines

Safeguards are essential to protect workers from injury. Any machine part, function, or process that might cause injury should be safeguarded. When the operation of a machine may result in a contact injury to the operator or others in the area, the hazard should be removed or controlled.

BS EN 15165 provides you with guidance on a list of significant hazards, safety, and hygiene requirements and/or protective measures, forming machines with feed intake hopper, electrical hazards, safety requirements related to electromagnetic phenomena, hydraulic and pneumatic hazards, ergonomic requirements, verification of safety and hygiene requirements and/or protective measures, Information for use, etc.

The safety and hygiene requirements provided by BS EN 15165 assist you in improving the performance and quality of forming machines, enhancing the safety, and ensuring a reduction in the risk to workers against mechanical hazards, electrical hazards, hazards generated by hydraulic or pneumatic, hazards generated by the loss of stability, hazards generated by noise.

With obedience and compliance to BS EN 15165, you can enhance forming machines effectiveness and efficacy and manufacture a standardized high-quality product.
