What is BS EN 12691 – Flexible sheets for waterproofing about?
BS EN 12691 is a European standard on flexible sheets for waterproofing that specifies the test methods, test procedures that help in determining the resistance to impact for flexible sheets for waterproofing.
BS EN 12691 specifies a test for puncture by the impact on sheets for roof waterproofing. Mechanical stress on waterproofing sheets ranges from static long-term loads to dynamic short-term loads. This method represents the dynamic category of load where puncture may be caused by impact.
Note: BS EN 12691 may also be applied for other purposes of waterproofing
Who is BS EN 12691 - Flexible sheets for waterproofing for?
BS EN 12691 on flexible sheets for waterproofing is useful for:
- Manufacturers of flexible waterproofing sheets
- Civil engineer
Why should you use BS EN 12691 - Flexible sheets for waterproofing?
The waterproof layer formed by coating on the waterproof surface is called flexible waterproof. This Flexible waterproof is a two-component functional water-based waterproof coating prepared from highly environmentally friendly modified polymer emulsion, high-quality cement, and a variety of functional additives.
BS EN 12691 is useful in constructing the test apparatus in such a way that it enables the vertical falling of the drop mass and consists of the parts that can be used with hard support or soft support. The release mechanism helps in measuring the puncturing tool from the bottom to the surface of the test specimens. BS EN 12691 helps in expressing the resistance to impact by drop height of the puncturing tool in millimeters and is useful in avoiding the leakage of the flexible sheet for roof waterproofing.
BS EN 12691 specifies the test method and procedure for determining the resistance to impact on flexible sheets for roof waterproofing. This test method helps in characterizing and classifying the bitumen, plastic, and rubber sheets before using them for roof waterproofing and also ensures the components are appropriately used while installing the products.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 12691:2018 supersedes BS EN 12691:2006. BS EN 12691:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 12691:2006. This revision includes Subclause 5.6.2, Aluminium plate (method A) and Subclause 5.6.3, Standard expanded polystyrene panels (method B) are adjusted to the current EN standards, and a control value method A is introduced.
