What is ISO 6915 Flexible cellular polymeric materials about ?

ISO 6915 specifies the minimum requirements for flexible polyurethane foams up to and including 20 mm thick intended for combination with suitable substrates such as non-woven, woven or knitted fabrics, to form a laminate.

ISO 6915 specifies three types of flexible polyurethane foam:

  • Type 1: polyether
  • Type 2: polyester with minimum elongation at break of 200 %
  • Type 3: polyester with minimum elongation at break of 300 %

Who is ISO 6915 Flexible cellular polymeric materials for?

ISO 6915 on polyurethane foam is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of polyurethane foam
  • Chemical engineers
  • Scientists and researchers
  • Any entity responsible for testing and quality assurance of polymeric materials

Why should you use ISO 6915 Flexible cellular polymeric materials for ?

Polymers are materials made of repeated chains of molecules; their properties vary with the type of molecules bonded and the way they are bonded.

ISO 6915 describes a method for measuring the volume swelling of urethane foam after immersion in perchloroethylene under specified conditions. Other solvents may be used by agreement between the parties concerned.

Using methods and procedures defined in ISO 6915, cell counts can be performed to provide a result that represents the count in a single position. Differences within sheets of foam may occur, and, if required, these can be established by agreement between the buyer and the supplier.

Ultimately, ISO 6915 is designed to provide specifications and methods for the use of polyurethane foam for laminating, thereby equipping users with a comprehensive understanding of the quality of flexibility, durability and strength of the polymeric materials.
