What is BS EN 10921 - Steel flanges used in building applications about?

BS EN 1092 is a series of European standards on flanges that specifies requirements for circular steel flanges in PN designations PN 2,5 to PN 400 and nominal sizes from DN 10 to DN 4000.

BS EN 10921 is the first part of the BS EN 1092 series of documents that specifies the flange types and their facings, dimensions, tolerances, threading, bolt sizes, flange jointing face surface finish, marking, materials, pressure/ temperature ratings and approximate flange masses.

Who is BS EN 10921 - Steel flanges used in building applications for?

BS EN 10921 on steel flanges is applicable for:

  • Builders
  • Manufacturers and suppliers of steel flanges
  • Manufacturers of pipes

Why should you use BS EN 10921 - Steel flanges used in building applications

The flanged joint design means that pipes are secured by external screws, providing additional joint support for the transportation of substances at high pressure.

BS EN 10921 navigates you through the standard designation of flanges and types of flange collars.

BS EN 10921 provides the general requirements and methods to manufacture flanges and collars fulfilling the essential safety requirements of pressure equipment. Determination of p/T ratings for flanges is given in BS EN 10921.

Dimensions of flanges and collars, hubs of the flange, threaded flanges, bolt holes, lapped joints and collar types can be determined with BS EN 10921.

BS EN 10921 specifies the general marking and hard stampings requirements on all flanges, lapped ends and collars, BS EN 10921 provides inspection and testing methods of fusion-welded joints and bent and electric welded flanges or collars from formed bars as well as of close die flanges.

Overall, BS EN 10921 assist you in designing steel flanges to be used in building construction that can be used in the piping connection, valves, and other equipment providing an easy point of access for cleaning, inspection, modification and repairs.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 10921:2018 supersedes BS EN 10921:2007+A1:2013. BS EN 10921:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 10921:2007+A1:2013. These include:

  • Standard references were updated
  • Several changes were made in some synoptic tables
  • Changes were implemented in thicknesses for types 36 and 37
  • Flanges Type 5 for PN 160 to PN 400 were implemented.
