What is BS EN 12094-1 – Electrical automatic control and delay devices about?

BS EN 12094 discusses components for gas extinguishing systems. The aim of the BS EN 12094 series is to provide the best industry requirements for the safe and reliable use of fixed firefighting systems, such that they play a positive role during a fire emergency.

BS EN 12094-1 is the first part of the BS EN 12094 series that specifies requirements and test methods for electrical automatic control and delay devices (e.c.d.) for use in combination with automatic fire detection and fire alarm systems and CO2-, Inert Gas- or Halocarbon Gas-Fire Extinguishing Systems installed in buildings.

BS EN 12094-1 specifies compulsory functions which shall be provided on all electrical automatic control and delay devices and optional functions (options with requirements) which may be provided.

Note: Additional functions associated with fire extinguishing can be provided, but are not covered by BS EN 12094-1.

Who is BS EN 12094-1 – Electrical automatic control and delay devices for?

BS EN 12094-1 on electrical automatic control and delay devices is useful for:

  • Electrical automatic control and delay device manufactures
  • Gas extinguishing systems manufacturers and suppliers
  • Installers
  • Electrical engineers
  • Entities involved in fire safety engineering
  • Quality control and testing department
  • Fire safety departments
  • Local authorities
  • Regulatory bodies

Why should you use BS EN 12094-1 – Electrical automatic control and delay devices?

A fire extinguishing system that extinguishes the fire with the help of a gaseous extinguishing agent either through oxygen displacement (reduction of oxygen content) or physical effects (heat extraction). To prevent hazardous situations, it is necessary that gas extinguishing systems and their accessories are designed and built as per the best industry performance requirements.

BS EN 12094-1 provides you with requirements and test methods that can be followed while manufacturing electrical automatic control and delay devices. This can ensure that electrical automatic control and delay devices receives information from devices designed to detect and report fires, monitors their operational integrity, and provides for automatic control of equipment, and transmission of information necessary to prepare the facility for fire based on a predetermined sequence.

BS EN 12094-1 helps in the evaluation of conformity of product by using initial type testing and factory production control method that verifies if the performance declarations represent the true behaviour of the product.

If you are a manufacturer, BS EN 12094-1 can ensure that your electrical automatic control and delay devices contribute to the operational efficiency of the gas extinguishing system and contribute to a successful fire response.
