What is BS EN 60384-14-1 - Fixed capacitors for electromagnetic interference suppression about?

BS EN 60384-14-1 is an international standard that discusses fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment.  BS EN 60384-14-1 helps in resisting the heat of dielectric and helps in improving the quality of fixed capacitors.

BS EN 60384-14-1 applies to capacitors and resistor-capacitor combinations which will be connected to an a.c. mains or other supply with nominal voltage not exceeding 1 000 V a.c. (r.m.s.) or 1 500 V d.c. and with a nominal frequency not exceeding 100 Hz.

Who is BS EN 60384-14-1 - Fixed capacitors for electromagnetic interference suppression for?

BS EN 60384-14-1 on fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of electronic equipment
  • Sensor and monitoring device manufacturer
  • Electrician
  • Certification bodies
  • Quality inspection

Why should you use BS EN 60384-14-1 - Fixed capacitors for electromagnetic interference suppression

In electric appliances or gadgets, a fixed capacitor aids in maintaining a steady charge and energy output. In general, fixed capacitors are characterized in terms of the dielectric material used to make them.

This blank detail specification forms the basis for a uniform procedure for a common international safety mark. It implements the approval schedule for safety tests in IEC 60384-14, requires a declaration of design for parameters relevant to safety, and indicates conformance tests to be conducted on every lot prior to its release and requalification tests depending on changes to the declared design.

The adoption of IEC 60384-14-1 allows you to create components that are better suitable for mass manufacturing.

BS EN IEC 60384‑14-1 is useful in performing the test and also helps in producing better quality electronic devices. Adherence to BS EN 60384-14-1 will aid in the suppression of external interference and the protection of the device.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 60384-14-1:2016 supersedes BS EN 60384-14-1:2005 and BS EN 60384-14-3:2004, which are withdrawn. BS EN 60384-14-1:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 60384-14-1:2005 and BS EN 60384-14-3:2004. These include:

  • The assessment level has been changed to DZ (zero acceptance). The contents are the same as in old IEC 60384-14-3 with editorial changes. IEC 60384-14-3 has been deleted.
