What is BS EN 1366-7 – Fire resistance of conveyor systems and their closures about?
BS EN 1366 is a European Standard that focuses on fire resistance tests for service installations. The main aim of the BS EN 1366 series is to provide best industry practices to demonstrate the fire-resistance properties of service installations.
BS EN 1366-7 is the seventh of part of the BS EN 1366 series that specifies a method of fire testing to determine the fire resistance of closure and conveyor system assemblies designed for installation within openings of separating elements, including any sealing necessary between the closure for a conveyor system and any penetrating components like conveyor tracks, electrical cables and pneumatic pipes being essential parts of the closure and conveyor system assembly together with the penetration seal.
Note 1: BS EN 1366-7 is not applicable to other test methods required to fully assess closures for conveyor systems, e.g. test methods to evaluate the serviceability and reliable functioning of interconnected systems.
Note 2: The fire testing of fire dampers for heating and ventilation systems, fire doors and shutters for normal traffic paths and the movement of liquid and combustible gas, are specifically excluded from BS EN 1366-7.
Who is BS EN 1366-7 – Fire resistance of conveyor systems and their closures for?
BS EN 1366-7 on fire resistance tests for conveyor systems and their closures is useful for:
- Conveyor system manufacturers
- Building material and element manufacturers
- Mechanical engineers
- Quality control and testing authorities
- Local bodies
- Industries including but not limited to automotive, mining, pharmaceutical, chemical etc
Why should you use BS EN 1366-7 – Fire resistance of conveyor systems and their closures?
Testing the fire resistance of service installations involves determining its behaviour when exposed to a particular heating condition.
BS EN 1366-7 walks you through a method of fire resistance testing for assessing the contribution of a closure for a conveyor system together with all its anchoring parts and the frame/guide included to the fire resistance of a separating element when penetrated by a conveyor system including any relevant penetrating components.
General guidance on the design of closure and conveyor system assemblies and their classification for self closing durability is also covered in BS EN 1366-7.
This can ensure that the conveyor systems and their closures offer adequate fire resistance and thereby minimize the risk of accidents and hazardous situations that may arise due to the flammable nature of products.
