What is BS EN 60695-1-21 ‒ Assessing the ignitability about ?
BS EN 60695-1-21 is a part of an international multi-series standard that covers safety guidelines for fire hazard testing.
BS EN 60695-1-21 provides a summary of test methods that are used to determine the ignitability of electrotechnical products or materials from which they are formed. It also includes test methods in which, by design, ignitability is a significant quantifiable characteristic.
BS EN 60695-1-21 is a basic safety publication that is intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.
Who is BS EN 60695-1-21 ‒ Assessing the ignitability for ?
BS EN 60695-1-21 on assessing the ignitability is useful for:
- Firefighting companies
- Firefighting colleges
- Test /service providers for fire hazard testing
- Technical committees for fire hazard testing
Why should you use BS EN 60695-1-21 ‒ Assessing the ignitability ?
Fires start with ignition and can grow, leading in some cases to flash-over and a fully developed fire. Ignition resistance is therefore one of the most important parameters of a material to be considered in the assessment of fire hazards.
BS EN 60695-1-21 discusses the principle and test methods for assessing the ignitability of electrotechnical products and the materials used in their construction. It helps you know the ignition resistance of the materials which are intended to use in the production of electrotechnical products.
BS EN 60695-1-21 represents the current state of the art of the test and includes special observations on their relevance and use, for the assessment of the ignitability of electrotechnical products in order to prevent the occurrence of mishaps due to igniting the fire.
What’s changed since the last update ?
BS EN 60695-1-21:2016 supersedes PD IEC/TS 60695-1-21:2008, which is withdrawn. BS EN 60695-1-21:2016 includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- Change from a TR to an international standard, modified Introduction and scope
- Updated normative references, terms and definitions, new text in Clause 4
- Addition of text concerning ASTM D 3638, updates to Annex A, updates to the bibliography
