What is ISO 2307 - Fibre ropes about?

Why should you use ISO 2307 - Fibre ropes?
Fibre ropes are made from fibres of varying lengths depending on their source. these are twisted up into yarns, and the twist given binds the fibres firmly together so that they hold by friction when the yarn is subjected to strain. The yarns are then laid up to form a rope.
ISO 2307 specifies ropes of different kinds, a method of determining each of the following characteristics:
- Linear density: it is the measure of several fibre ropes value per unit of length
- Diameter: Measure the length of the string with a ruler, and divide the number by π (3.14259).
- Lay length: it is measured in a straight line parallel to the centre line of the rope, not by following the path of the strand. The appropriate time to replace a wire rope in service is frequently determined by counting the number of broken wires in the length of one rope lay.
- Braid pitch: fibre that is twisted or braided is stronger than the same bundle of fibres that are straight because the cord has more capacity to stretch.
- Elongation: It is that portion of the extension that is immediately recoverable when the load is released.
- Breaking force: Polypropylene fibre 3-strand, and 8 strand rope - minimum breaking strength and safe load.
ISO 2307 specifies measuring water repellence, lubrication, and finishing the content, when requested by the customer, where all manufacturers of synthetic mountaineering ropes provide chemically coated ropes to reduce their water uptake in a wet environment, and mineral oil or petrolatum types are used to lubricate the core which then functions as a reservoir for prolonged lubrication when in use. For rope with a steel core, grease or oil-type lubricants are put on the wires before they're twisted into strands to ensure maximum coverage.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 2307:2019 supersedes ISO 2307:2010. BS EN ISO 2307:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 2307:2010. These include:
- Inclusion of diameter in the scope, and describe methods to measure it
- Changes in test length
- Changes in test speed
- Inclusion of another method for determination of realization factor
- Addition of a sample of a test report
