What is BS EN IEC 61300210 about?

BS EN IEC 61300 discusses fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components. fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components is a part of a telecommunications technology for delivering broadband network access to end customers. BS EN IEC 61300210 evaluates the effect of loads which is possible to occur when fibre optic devices are exposed to critical situations such as being stepped on, being run over by vehicle tyres, when an evenly distributed, the static load is applied to the top surface of a street cabinet or when a load is applied to a street cabinet's open door.

BS EN IEC 61300210 specifies the procedure methods and give detailed information on each of them which are mentioned below:

  • DUT preparation
  • Pre-conditioning
  • Initial examination and measurement
  • Device mounting
  • Conditioning
  • Recovery
  • Final examination and measurement

Who is BS EN IEC 61300210 for?

BS EN IEC 61300210 on fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components is useful for:

  • Telecommunication equipment manufacturers
  • Design engineer
  • Quality control personnel
  • Research and development facilities

Why should you use BS EN IEC 61300210?

Crush and load resistance performance is one of the primary mechanical characteristics that are routinely tested and specified by optical fibre cable communications industries. BS EN IEC 613002-10 provides you with test and measurement procedures for crush and load resistance testing of optical fibre components which helps you to determine the ability of an optical-fibre cable to withstand and recover from the effects of a compressive force. BS EN IEC 613002-10 focuses on fibre-optic interconnection devices and passive components and provides you guidance on each fibre component and their functional application by applying measurement and examination methods and power detection systems.

BS EN IEC 61300210 provides specifications on a crush test of an optical fibre cable that intends of the crush test is to subject the optical cable to crushing or clamping forces that could occur during installation, operation, or maintenance. The cable could be crushed to the extent of adversely affecting the optical signals, this is done to verify the mechanical integrity of the optical cable and the supporting hardware when subjected to crush forces and to verify the optical performance of the optical cable when subjected to crush forces. Using BS EN IEC 61300210 you can evaluate the effect of loads that is possible to occur when fibre optic devices are exposed to critical situations.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 61300210:2021 supersedes BS EN 61300210:2012. BS EN IEC 61300210:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 61300210:2012. These include:

  • Addition of testing an evenly distributed static load applied on the top surface of a street cabinet
  • Addition of testing a static load applied to a street cabinet door
  • Addition of descriptions to perform the test at a specified temperature other as specified in the standard atmospheric conditions and addition of test temperature(s) in Table 1
  • Update of the severities according to IEC 61753-1:2018
