What is ISO 7526 about?
ISO 7526 specifies an infrared absorption method after combustion in an induction furnace for the determination of the sulfur content in ferronickels in the range of 0,002 % to 0,12 %.
ISO 7526 is applicable to normal production operations. It uses commercially available equipment, which is calibrated using steel and/or ferronickel certified reference materials (CRMs).
ISO 7526 provides you information on reagents, apparatus, sampling, procedure and results to determine sulfur content using the Infrared absorption method after induction furnace combustion.

- Manufacturers of ferronickels and ferronickel components
- Suppliers and importers of ferronickels and ferronickel components
- Testing houses for metallic alloys
Why should you use ISO 7526?
Sulfur lowers the strength, toughness and corrosion resistance in Ferronickels, hence, the sulfur content must be calibrated accurately before Ferronickel can be used for alloying.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 7526:2020 supersedes BS 6783-7:1986, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS EN ISO 7526:2020 include –
- The scope has been limited to ferronickels only
- The former Clauses 5 and 7 have been technically revised
- The former Annexes A and C have been deleted
- The precision data have been updated
