What is BS 1722-2 about?
BS 1722-2 is the second part of the multiple series that specifies requirements for the construction and installation of rectangular wire mesh fences, line wire and dropper strained wire fences and hexagonal wire netting fences.
BS 1722-2 specifies requirements for protective treatment. It empowers the manufacturers to fulfil the demands of the clients by eliminating the unnecessary minor variations in their demands.

BS 1722-2 also enables installers to examine the presence of any electricity, gas, water, or other underground services to be established prior to commencement of work according to the level of fences. It allows the manufacturer or supplier of fences to provide the installer with a certificate or statement of conforming with the purchase order.
What’s changed since the last update?
This part of BS 1722:2020 supersedes BS 1722:2006, which is withdrawn.
This is a full revision of the standard, and introduces the following principal changes:
- The structure has been simplified
- A more performance-based approach is specified; and
- The product base has been updated in line with current usage
