What is BS EN IEC 60068‑2‑38 about?
BS EN IEC 60068‑2‑38 specifies a composite test procedure, primarily intended for component type specimens, to determine, in an accelerated manner, the resistance of specimens to the deteriorative effects of high temperature/humidity and cold conditions.
Note: BS EN IEC 60068‑2‑38 doesn't apply to specimens that are energized during the complete test. Specimens can be energized during the constant phases of the tests. Measurements on energized specimens are typically carried out during constant phases of the test unless specified otherwise.
Who is BS EN IEC 60068‑2‑38 for?
BS EN IEC 60068‑2‑38 on environmental testing is useful for:
- Electrotechnical equipment designers and manufacturers
- Test laboratories
Why should you use BS EN IEC 60068‑2‑38?
Humidity tests are generally utilized to assess materials’ corrosivity or the impacts of substances like residual contaminants. Test Z/AD is a cyclic temperature/humidity test that is designed to reveal defects in test specimens caused by "breathing" as distinct from the absorption of moisture. Products are subjected to humidity testing to determine the resistance and effect of a part to environmental extremes.
BS EN IEC 60068‑2‑38 will help the manufacturers can extend the lifespan of the product by protecting the product against humidity.
