An evolution of environmental management is happening.
Trusted by more than half a million organizations globally, the world’s leading Environmental Management Systems (EMS) standard has evolved to reflect today’s sustainability, compliance and resilience challenges. The 2026 edition ensures organizations of any size can embed environmental thinking strategically, confidently and with greater clarity than ever before.
What is BS EN ISO 14001:2026 - Environmental management systems - Requirements with guidance for use about?
BS EN ISO 14001:2026 is an internationally recognized management system standard, meaning it provides a structured, repeatable, and organization‑wide framework for managing environmental responsibilities in a systematic way.
Rather than prescribing environmental performance levels, it sets out requirements for how an Environmental Management System (EMS) must operate, ensuring organizations can continually improve their environmental performance over time.
It’s use helps organizations to:
- Reduce environmental impacts.
- Fulfil compliance obligations.
- Improve environmental performance.
- Strengthen resilience and leadership in sustainability.
The 2026 revision responds to major global shifts such as climate change, biodiversity loss, ESG reporting expectations, and supply chain transparency. Environmental management has moved from a compliance activity to an integrated strategic priority - and this standard reflects exactly that evolution.
