BS EN 15316 discusses the energy performance of buildings. BS EN 15316-5 is the fifth part of BS EN 15316 multi-series and discusses space heating and DHW storage systems (not cooling), Module M3-7, M8-7.
BS EN 15316-5 covers energy performance calculation of water-based storage sub-systems used for heating, for domestic hot water, or for the combination of these.
Note: BS EN 15316-5 does not cover sizing or inspection of such storage systems.

Why should you use BS EN 15316-5 - Energy performance of buildings?
BS EN 15316-5 is part of a series of standards aiming at international harmonization of the methodology for the assessment of the energy performance of buildings, called the “set of EPB standards.
BS EN 15316-5 provides you with two methods to consider the energy performance of storage systems for heating of domestic hot water coupled to generation system(s) producing hot water or using independent energy input to the storage unit.
Two methods in BS EN 15316-5 are applicable to the different technologies of water-based storage systems and related controls systems:
- Method A applies when the hot water is thermally stratified
- Method B applies when the hot water contained in the storage unit(s) is thermally homogeneous
