BS EN 61375-2-5 is a part of an international multi-series standard that discusses train communication network systems (TCN).

BS EN 61375-2-5 defines Ethernet Train Backbone (ETB) requirements to fulfil open train data communication system based on Ethernet technology.

BS EN 61375-2-5 stipulates the technical specifications such as related terms and definitions, conventions, Ethernet Train Backbone (ETB) physical layer, ETB data link layer, ETB network layer: IPv4 subnets definition, ETB Transport layer, ETB Train Inauguration: TTDP, ETB ETBN redundancy, ETB physical train naming convention, ETB Quality of Service, ETB Management and monitoring, ETB Application interface, ETB conformity statement, etc.

A Protocol Implementation Conformance Statement (PICS) proforma allows suppliers to state their conformity to BS EN 61375-2-5. It recommends that all Consist Network definitions should consider it to preserve interoperability.
