What is BS EN 55032 Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment about?

BS EN 55032 is a series on the Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical equipment and systems to function acceptably in their electromagnetic environment, by limiting the unintentional generation, propagation, and reception of electromagnetic energy which may cause unwanted effects such as electromagnetic inteferences (EMI) or even physical damage in operational equipment. BS EN 55032 applies to multimedia equipment (MME) and has a rated RMS AC or DC supply voltage not exceeding 600V.

The radiated emission requirements in BS EN 55032 are not intended to be applicable to the intentional transmissions from a radio transmitter as defined by the ITU, nor to any spurious emissions related to these intentional transmissions.

BS EN 55032 covers two classes of MME:

  • Class A
  • Class B

Who is BS EN 55032 Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment for?

BS EN 55032 on electromagnetic compatibility is applicable to:

  • Suppliers of IT
  • Telecommunications product/equipment designers
  • EMC test laboratories
  • Regulatory bodies
  • multimedia equipment suppliers

Why should you use BS EN 55032 Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment?

The goal of Electromagnetic compatibility is the correct operation of different equipment in a common electromagnetic environment. It is also the name given to the associated branch of electrical engineering. BS EN 55032 implementation helps the user to minimize the possibility that radiated and conducted emissions produced by your device will interfere with other electronic products in the vicinity.

BS EN 55032 helps to ensure that any emission from your device is below relevant limits defined for the device this helps in maintaining the productivity and durability of the devices we use in our production. Using BS EN 55032 you can understand emission requirements for Electromagnetic compatibility for your electronic appliances.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 supersedes BS EN 55032:2015. BS EN 55032:2015+A11:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 55032:2015. These include:

  • Additional requirements using FAR
  • Additional requirements for outdoor unit of home satellite receiving systems
  • Addition of new informative annexes covering GTEM and RVC
  • Numerous maintenance items are addressed to improve the testing of MME
